One Big Tent welcomes and supports individuals along their recovery journey. Each person's recovery is unique, so we discourage proselytizing in any form. Our community wishes to promote an all-inclusive comprehensive approach to recovery. Our addictions do not discriminate, so neither should we. Though we respect everyone's right to believe and worship as they choose, we ask that individuals refrain from discussing such matters in our shared meeting spaces. This would include refraining from commentary on any particular world views, affirming or negating political affiliations or any faith-based rhetoric that might be used to persuade or dissuade and/or give advice to others about their particular values or beliefs. Our purpose is to provide a safe and healing environment for persons in recovery regardless of their social or cultural differences— to meet each individual where they are in their recovery journey without prejudice. Please adhere to the following Meeting Etiquettes when attending our recovery meeting, as these spaces are shared by our entire diverse community.
Our community discourages crosstalk, which we define as the following:
1. Interrupting individuals during their sharing time for any reason
2. Criticizing, offering advice, or making comments about another individual's share
3. Speaking directly to an attendee or specifically referring to an attendee by their given name or otherwise
4. Analyzing or questioning anyone else's psyche or situation, other than you own!
WE SHARE ARE OWN EXPERIENCES ON OUR OWN RECOVERY
Our community encourages the use of "I" statements to express our individual thoughts, feelings, and actions during sharing times.
Expressing our thoughts and feelings using 1st person singular pronouns improves communication and ensures we are referring to our own individual experiences.
"I" statements tend to make people feel less defensive and more willing to listen. They help us focus on our own emotions and perceptions, and avoid attacking, judging, criticizing, or blaming others.
"I" STATEMENTS SHOW A WILLINGNESS TO COMMUNICATE, TO COPROMISE AND TO COMMITMENT
Our community does not support disparaging or discriminatory remarks which criticizes someone in a way that shows a lack of tolerance and respect or devalues a person or group of people in any form.
LOVE AND TOLERANCE OF EVERYONE IS OUR CODE
Our aim is to provide safe and welcoming meeting spaces for all attendees. We ask all who attend to please share in a "general way" and to remember to speak to the group as a whole instead of directly commenting to any specific individual(s)
